This presentation will be delivered by members of the BDO National Assurance Department spotlighting practical experience and viewpoints that build upon the concepts outlined in BDO’s Financial Reporting Newsletter BDO Knows: Complex Financial Instruments. First, this course will highlight key questions and concepts for board members to consider related to Complex Financial Instruments. Then, the course will progress to a more detailed analysis of accounting and reporting issues through the review of common elements of complex financial instruments, and more in-depth explanation of how to use BDO Complex Instruments Practice Aid including use of complex case study examples to highlight key concepts presented.
Upon completion of this course, participants should have gained a heightened awareness of:
- Questions and concepts to be considered by board members related to complex financial instruments
- Financial instruments with characteristics of both liabilities and equity, the concept of indexed to an entity’s own stock, the requirements for classification in stockholders’ equity, and SEC requirements for classification in stockholders’ equity
- Strategies to gain efficiency in analyzing and concluding on the proper accounting for complex financial instruments
- The BDO Complex Financial Instruments Practice Aid and how it can assist your company in the analysis and accounting for complex financial instruments
