The Escape Room is an inventive learning activity that is helping educate BDO professionals about Chat BDO, the firm’s generative AI tool. Through this video game-like experience, people are learning how to use the tool more effectively, and they’re having fun doing it. Team leader Teri Jacobs explains why and how The Escape Room was created.
How did the idea for the Escape Room come about?
Teri: Several months after the launch of Chat BDO, BDO professionals weren’t yet taking full advantage of its capabilities. National Learning & Development collaborated with National IT to create an experience that would give everyone a deeper understanding of Chat BDO. Collectively, we set out to design something that’s almost as engaging and innovative as Chat BDO itself.
How does it work?
Teri: You enter a virtual BDO office – which happens to be on the moon! – and get locked inside after a solar flare. To escape, you solve a series of puzzles and use Chat BDO to turn off the office’s security system. The activity teaches you to use Chat BDO functionality to solve a problem and complete a task. One of my favorite puzzles is figuring out how to get a moon fish back into its aquarium while learning new tips about Chat BDO.
How did you make it happen?
Teri: The effort was led by our AI Change Strategy Lead in National IT, and learning experience designers and developers from National Learning & Development. Leadership saw the value right away and gave the team their full support, and communications made sure everyone in the firm knew about this unique learning opportunity.
What has made The Escape Room successful?
Teri: Our teams understood the challenge – to encourage people to use Chat BDO in a variety of ways and through different prompts. The Escape Room is proving to be an effective and enjoyable way for people to get to know and appreciate this powerful tool. Over 500 individuals have tried the Escape Room so far, and we’ll be measuring the long-term impact on Chat BDO usage. Fortunately for us, we work at a firm that is committed to creative problem solving.
