Executive Summary

Mark Ellenbogen is BDO’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). As COO, Mark oversees every aspect of the firm’s business and is a member of the firm’s Executive management team where he works closely with other members to develop strategy and set the direction for the firm’s future sustainability, growth and profitability. Mark executes the firm’s mergers & acquisitions strategy, including analysis and recommendations for the establishment of new offices and practice expansion, applying his extensive experience and knowledge to form new ideas, concepts and methods to help drive the firm forward.

Mark oversees many of the firm’s operational business units, including Finance, IT, Administrative Operations and the Alliance program. He also directs the development and implementation of the firm’s national strategies and initiatives related to innovation and industry group programs. In addition, Mark oversees the firm’s international liaison program to ensure close collaboration with the BDO Global organization and participates on the Global Board Advisory Council.

Mark has over 30 years of public accounting experience working with clients in various industries including biotechnology, telecommunications, media, manufacturing, non-profit, education, publishing, software and technology, and professional services. Mark has consulted with clients on a variety of accounting and operational issues, including mergers and acquisitions. He has extensive experience with due diligence, opening balance sheet audits and purchase price allocations. Mark has also conducted training for both financial and non-financial audiences on a variety of audit and accounting issues.

Throughout his career with BDO, Mark has served in several leadership roles within the firm's Audit & Assurance practice. Most recently, he led Assurance Services for the Atlantic Region of the firm. As a BDO board member, Mark chaired its Governance Committee and was an instrumental figure in the establishment of the firm’s Employee Stock Ownership Plan. He has also been part of the Board of Directors Nominating Committee six times, serving as chair twice.
