Mark Millard

Mark Millard leads BDO’s Insurance Risk Advisory group. Mark has twenty years of experience working with clients to optimize their insurance risk management programs and total cost of risk. He specializes in the design, management, and assessment of insurance risk management programs through the lens of holistic risk treatment, operational efficiency, and cost reduction.  

Prior to joining BDO, Mark spent three years at an insurance brokerage firm leading its complex risk insurance team and nearly ten years with a Big Four firm where he was a senior manager in the Insurance Risk and Claims practice. Mark has led teams on countless insurance risk program assessments as well as numerous specialty projects for clients that have included the development of an insurance purchasing framework; authoring a manual to negotiate insurance provisions in contracts; and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) due diligence.   

Mark spent the first half of his career developing his technical insurance risk management skill set while working as an insurance risk manager in corporations that included UBS and Lend Lease.

Mark is a frequent speaker at industry seminars on topics that include strategic cost reduction, effective communication, cyber insurance, directors & officers exposure, merger & acquisition due diligence, process and controls development, transferring risk to the vendor, and insurance brokerage management. Mark has published articles in Directors & Boards and Risk & Insurance magazine, and penned a white paper on directors and officers liability exposure in the private equity industry.
