Executive Summary
With more than 20 years of experience in state and local taxation, Matthew has served a broad range of clients in a variety of industries, with a primary focus on state tax optimization, restructuring and transaction support.
Prior to joining BDO, Matthew was the director of tax and treasury at two public companies where he was responsible for all facets of the corporations’ tax function, including federal and international income tax, sales and use tax, state income and franchise tax, property tax, and credits and incentives.
Matthew has extensive experience addressing complex multistate business restructurings that involve a wide range of income, franchise, and sales and use tax issues. He is also experienced with state income and sales and use tax corporate audits, acting as a liaison between the auditors and the client during the audit process. Additionally, he has drafted memoranda and practiced before the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board.
Matthew is BDO’s national practice leader for State & Local Tax and the national tax leader for the technology industry group. He helps clients navigate issues from the rapidly changing state tax policy landscape to the tax implications of hybrid work models.
Matthew is also a Board Member for the Massachusetts CPA Society and an adjunct professor at Suffolk University Law School. He is frequently called upon for comment relative to state tax legislative proposals from local and national media outlets as well as members of the Massachusetts legislature.
