Riz is currently the Managing Director of BDO’s climate mitigation practice, which focuses on streamlining ESG disclosure, implementing decarbonization projects, identifying ways to leverage government incentives, and qualifying environmental credits to help fund sustainability projects. He has 17 years of experience in the energy transition and sustainability industry. 

• ESG IPO & GROWTH STRATEGY FOR DEFENSE CONTRACTOR:  Worked with private equity backed defense contractor to develop an ESG strategy and program to help engage investors and prepare for an IPO. The program focused on the enterprise tech sector and was designed to address concerns of clients such as Microsoft and AWS. The program also included expansion into Europe and the Middle East. 
• ESG & RAISING CAPITAL FOR TIRE MANUFACTURER: Developed ESG strategy and program to help a tire manufacturer secure grant funding from the U.S. Department of Energy under the Inflation Reduction Act to support implementing renewable energy and fuel strategies for manufacturing tires in a new facility. The program enabled the tire manufacturer to unlock capital from European investors that wanted to invest in sustainable manufacturing. 
• ENVIRONMENTAL CREDIT STRATEGY FOR HABITAT REHABILITATION:  Supported development of a habitat restoration strategy in Canada for a mining company to restore 55 hectors of land. Identified funding opportunities with government incentives and partners. Helped implement the program and make it more sustainable by using organic waste from landfills to develop topsoil and leveraging drone seeding strategies for trees. Coordinated with environmental credit registries and brokers to develop a roadmap to qualify the project for carbon offsets and environmental credits as well as identify buyers of the credits to support funding of the project.
• AFRICAN SOLAR ENERGY PROJECT: Worked with a mining company in Namibia to evaluate a proposal for solar projects by looking at environmental impacts and strategies to qualify the project for carbon offsets through a certification partner. 
• PRIVATE EQUITY ESG DISCLOSURE: Led engagement with private equity that owned $50B of renewable energy assets under management to develop a disclosure strategy leveraging technology and admission data to establish controls and automate reporting to a corporate team regarding emissions, health & safety metrics, and donations. 
• ENVIRONMENTAL CREDIT BROKER AND FINANCE NETWORK: Established a network of brokers that are interested in financing sustainability projects, qualifying environmental credits, and selling credits to support a client’s access to capital and monetize a sustainability program to fund climate transition.
