The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program was established to help facilitate compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) information security requirements for its Defense Industrial Base (DIB) partners who provide products and services to DoD and is intended to help ensure protection of sensitive unclassified information that is shared by DoD with its contractors. 

Through the program, DoD will obtain increased assurance that defense contractors are meeting the cybersecurity requirements that apply to acquisition programs and systems that process controlled unclassified information (CUI).
